Businesswomen honor artist Wayne Takazono

» The 10th annual "Partners for a Cure" fund-raiser at the Hawaii Prince Golf Course netted a record $53,000 for the American Diabetes Association in Hawaii.

The June 23 tourney was won by the team of Jason Kauhane, Marshall Wells and Robin Chang, of Aloha Mortgage & Finance. Each earned a round of golf at the Challenge at Manele or the Experience at Koele and a one-night stay at the Manele Bay Hotel.

Other first-place winners were Grant Hayashi, the Ball Drop, for a round trip for two to Las Vegas; Jim Walsh, putting contest, earning him an Odyssey 2-ball putter; Richard Okazaki, longest men's drive, worth a Wilson Driver Deep Red 1 Fat Shaft; and Lori Thomas, longest women's drive, for an Adams Golf Driver.

Bogus-currency bust nets guns and drugs

Police found a "significant amount of crystal methamphetamine," several firearms, counterfeit cash and computer equipment suspected of being used in a counterfeiting operation when they arrested a woman in her Moiliili apartment Tuesday.

Police began investigating the woman, 43, on Feb. 2 when she allegedly used the identity of another woman, 27, to forge a rental agreement. After the February incident, police received information about suspected drug activity at the apartment. Police, armed with a warrant, arrested the woman on drug and firearm offenses. A 54-year-man in the apartment was also arrested.

Man allegedly punches woman's car window

Police arrested a 23-year-old man Tuesday after he allegedly punched in the rear window of a woman's car while her 2-year-old son was strapped in a car seat inside. The boy was not hurt, but the woman, 24, suffered a cut on her left arm, police said. The incident happened about 1:20 p.m. at 2291 Ahe St. in Palolo Valley.

Police arrested the suspect on two counts of criminal property damage.

Man held in alleged love-triangle stabbing

Police arrested a 24-year-old Hauula man for second-degree attempted murder Tuesday in the stabbing of a 19-year-old man in Kahuku on Friday.

Police said the men were arguing over a mutual girlfriend when the suspect stabbed the victim in the arm. The suspect fled before police arrived, and the victim was taken to the hospital in serious condition.

Kahuku police arrested the suspect after he turned himself in Tuesday. The victim remained hospitalized in serious condition, police said.

Burglary victim leads police to two suspects

A Waianae man helped police arrest two men who allegedly stole an air compressor from him yesterday.

Police said one of the suspects allegedly stole the air compressor from the victim a little after 5:30 a.m. When the victim discovered the theft, he confronted the suspect, who denied taking it.

The first suspect then left the area in a vehicle driven by the second suspect.

The victim then followed and called 911, but while doing so was shot at by the first suspect, who leaned out of the vehicle and fired a handgun at him, police said.

The victim continued to follow the two men to make sure police could locate them.

The suspects were eventually arrested for second-degree theft, reckless endangering, terroristic threatening, detaining stolen property and a firearms offense.

2 families homeless after Wahiawa fire

The Red Cross assisted two families left homeless after a fire started by a child damaged two units in a Wahiawa apartment complex yesterday.

Fire officials said a 4-year-old boy playing with a lighter caused the blaze.

Damage to an upstairs unit, 264 California Ave., Apartment 3, caused $75,000 damage to the building and $25,000 to its contents, fire Capt. Emmit Kane said.

Water damage to the unit below was estimated at $10,000.

Heat and smoke damaged the upstairs unit, which housed two men, two women and three children.

The three women, a man and two children lived in the downstairs unit.

The 12:38 p.m. fire was brought under control by 12:45 p.m. and extinguished by 1:20 p.m.
