Hawaii Beat

Wahine picked to finish second in WAC soccer

Despite returning the nation's leading scorer and winning the regular-season championship last year, the Hawaii soccer team was picked to finish second in the Western Athletic Conference this fall.

Defending tournament champion Southern Methodist is the only team ahead of the Wahine in the poll, earning eight first-place votes and 64 points. Hawaii received one first-place vote and 55 points, followed by Rice with 50 points.

Hawaii striker Natasha Kai, who was officially named to the U.S. Under-21 national team yesterday and led the nation in scoring last year with 29 goals, is expected to return to the team along with All-WAC selections Robyn deHay and Joelle Sugai.
