Irons beats Powers for title

Reigning two-time world surfing champion Andy Irons edged out fellow Hawaii surfer Roy Powers to claim the 2004 Mr Price Pro championship yesterday at North Beach, Durban.

Irons finished with a score of 18.00 in the men's final with Powers' score of 13.83 edging out South African's Greg Emslie by .8 points for second place.

Hilo East, Oahu Stars split titles

Jarrett Arakawa pitched a two-hit shutout and added three hits as the Oahu Stars pounded Hilo East 10-0 to win the Cal Ripken 12 & Under State Tournament and advance to the Pacific Southwest Regional July 28-Aug. 3 in Fallon, Nev. Jeremy Fujimoto and Kewby Meyer added home runs for the Stars.

Not all was lost for Hilo East however as their 15-and-under team defeated the Oahu Stars 2-0 in the Babe Ruth State Tournament to advance to the Pacific Southwest Regional Aug. 4-10 in El Segundo, Calif.
