Ruth Ann Becker is still talking about her trip to D.C., where she attended the Jefferson Awards for Public Service ceremonies. Frank Boas was the Hawaii recipient. He received a certificate from Sen. Daniel Akaka at a Senate reception. Most of the Murphy's staff attended a farewell party for cook Rogelio "Bong" Garingo at Side Street Inn June 27. Don and Marion Murphy tossed the party. It was also a belated Christmas party for the staff. Others attending were Jan Diehl, Margo Hosoi, Pepe Diaz, Wayne Larrow, Trina Wong, Wendy Snow, Carrie Pearson, Lance Takaki and Jay Niebuhr. There was plenty of karaoke singing. Puna Chillingworth dropped in to give Bong a lei. Bong has been with Murphy's 16 years.
