Shidler Group sells San Diego complex

The Shidler Group, which is seeking to buy the Waterfront Plaza retail and office complex that houses Restaurant Row, has sold a four-building office and biotechnology complex in a San Diego suburb for $92.1 million.

Shidler Group, along with partner Angelo, Gordon & Co., sold the 353,067-square-foot Seaview Corporate Center to Principal Real Estate Investors. Shidler bought the complex in April 2002 for $62.5 million.

The complex, which is 96 percent occupied, includes pharmaceutical giant Pfizer Inc.

Shidler Group owns and operates more than 8 million square feet of commercial property throughout Hawaii, Texas, Arizona and Southern California. Last December, Shidler purchased the downtown Honolulu Davies Pacific Center and the Pan Am Building on Kapiolani Boulevard for a combined $90 million.

Earlier this year, Shidler sold its interest in the Waikiki Galleria Tower, the mixed office-retail building that is home to the DFS Galleria; and is currently shopping the Pacific Business News Building on Kalakaua Avenue.

Maritime training funds sought

Fund raising is underway for a new scholarship for Hawaii students to attend the California Maritime Academy in Vallejo.

Maritime interests hope to increase local interest in industry careers and plan to raise more than $50,000 for scholarships that may be sought by students seeking entrance to the academy.

Cal Maritime students can graduate with a third mate's license; a third assistant engineer's license; or a license as a certified plant engineer in training for land-based jobs.
