Toyama, Chun lead at Westfield Juniors

Travis Toyama and Mari Chun lead their respective divisions going into today's final round of the Westfield Junior Aloha Section PGA Championship at the George Fazio Course at the Turtle Bay Resort.

Toyama shot a 4-under 68 for a one-stroke lead over Tadd Fujikawa in the boys division. Chun was at 70, four strokes ahead of Kelly Nakashima in the girls division.

The division winners advance to the 29th Westfield Junior PGA Championship, July 14-17, in Westfield Center, Ohio.

BYUH's Smith named all-academic

Brigham Young-Hawaii sophomore cross country runner Chelsea Smith was named to the Daktronics District VIII women's track and field/cross country all-academic team.

Smith, from Mead, Wash., has a 3.86 grade-point average in exercise and sport science. Last fall, she won the NCAA Division II cross country national championship and was the West Region Runner of the Year.

Bartels tops Kennelly for Queen of Surf

Melanie Bartels of Waianae won the SG Magazine Queen of Surf meet Sunday, defeating Kauai's Keala Kennelly at Pacific Beach, Calif.

Bartels earned $3,500 for the win in the all-Hawaii final.

Wrestling festival at Waianae High

Hawaii USA Wrestling is hosting the Waianae Wrestling Festival tomorrow at Waianae High.

The Greco-Roman and freestyle competition starts at 10 a.m. The weigh-in is from 8 to 9 a.m.

Wrestlers must have a Hawaii USA Wrestling membership card. There is a $5 charge for one style or $7 for both styles.

Women's fitness series at NikeTown

The "Get Fit Girl" summer fitness series, a four-part monthly event designed for enhancing workouts for women, begins tomorrow at NikeTown in Waikiki.

The 90-minute event is free and includes a 3-mile run/walk, clinics on training and health-related topics, a trunk show of training gear and mini-workouts conducted by instructors from the Honolulu Club.

The dates are tomorrow, July 17, Aug. 21 and Sept. 18 from 8:30 to 10 a.m. No registration is needed, but participants should arrive dressed to work out.

Na Koa golf tournament on Kauai

Na Koa, the Hawaii football booster club, will hold a fund-raising golf tournament July 17 at the Puakea Golf Course in Lihue.

The format is a three-person modified scramble with an 8 a.m. shotgun start. The $125 fee includes green fees, a bucket of practice balls, buffet awards luncheon and prizes.
