Workshops will discuss
aspects of retirement

Two workshops remain in a University of Hawaii "Elder Life" series to help residents plan for retirement years.

The classes are designed to provide the latest information on issues affecting seniors. They are held in Krauss 012 on the UH-Manoa campus.

Dr. Lam Nguyen, assistant professor of geriatric medicine at the John A. Burns School of Medicine, will speak at a workshop from 9 a.m. to noon tomorrow.

Nguyen, who teaches "Healthy Aging," received a 2003 Excellence in Teaching Award. He will address topics such as differences between normal aging and disease, when memory loss is Alzheimer's, medication use and minimizing the potential for adverse effects, and tips for staying healthy.

James Pietsch, director of the Elder Law Program at the William S. Richardson School of Law, will discuss "Elder Law" from 9 a.m. to noon June 26.

Topics will include how to put your house in order, including the basics of estate planning with wills, trusts, executors, probate and estate taxes.

Workshops cost $30 each. To register, call the UH Outreach College at 956-8400.
