Services begin on Friday
for percussionist Colon

Services for musician August Borero "Augie" Colon Sr. will be Friday on Oahu and Saturday on Molokai.

Colon, 76, of Molokai, died June 4 in the Queen's Medical Center. He was a percussionist whose ability to mimic tropical birds and "jungle animals" made him an international recording star with Martin Denny in the 1950s. He was born in Honolulu.

Colon is survived by wife Phyllis K. "Uilani"; sons August "Lopaka," Kaika and John "Kekoa"; daughters Dolores Colon-Verbanic, Estrellita Colon-Burley and Yolanda M., Juanita N. and Phyllis U. Colon; hanai daughters Tiffany P. Cureton and Kelsey M. Richardson; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Services: 7 p.m. Friday at Borthwick Mortuary.
