UB40 headed to Hawaii
for 3 concerts

TICKETS GO on sale this weekend for the return of British reggae legends UB40, who are scheduled to play three shows here in August.

Last here five years ago, the group put out a new album late in 2003, but it was only released in the United Kingdom.

Local fans are probably more familiar with their song on the "50 First Dates" soundtrack, a cover of "Every Breath You Take" by the Police. One of their own songs, "Breakfast in Bed," also appeared on the soundtrack as a cover by Nicole Kea.

Following shows on Aug. 17 in Hilo and Aug. 19 on Maui, UB40 lands on Oahu to perform at the Waikiki Shell on Aug. 20. Tickets range from $25 to $45, and will be available starting at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Blaisdell Box Office and all Ticketmaster outlets. Call (877) 750-4400 to order yours by phone ...

IT'S A little last minute, but you've got a chance to be on television if you can get to the Wave Waikiki by 2 p.m. today.

A camera crew from "Ready for the Weekend," a new show set to air on the USA Network, will be there filming, and they need as many "club-type" people as possible.

You might have already spotted the cameras if you were at the Wave on Tuesday -- they were at the club taping the festivities during Daniel J's 40th birthday party ...

ONE GUY who doesn't need to be at the Wave to get on television is Paul Ogata. The buzz surrounding the comedian is growing as he attracts more and more attention from local media.

Over the next few days, however, he'll get a pretty good push among mainstream audiences on the mainland -- Ogata leaves in a few days for Los Angeles, where he'll appear Tuesday night on CBS' "The Late Late Show" with Craig Kilborn.

Can't wait (or stay up that late) to see him on the tube? Check out "Stir TV," a weekly program about Asian-American lifestyle and culture, when it airs at 5 p.m. Saturday on KHNL.

Ogata is scheduled to appear in this week's episode, talking about his starring role in the short film "Amasian: The Amazing Asian." Sam Choy is another Hawaii resident recently featured on that program ...

THERE'S A new party starting up tonight at Zanzabar, geared towards members of the Baby Boom generation.

"Thirty-Plus Thursdays" takes place from 6 to 10 p.m. tonight, with local promoter Tom Moffatt and radio station Oldies 107.9 teaming up with the nightclub to play music from the mid-'60s to the mid-'80s for the over 30 crowd. Cover is just $2 for this one; call 296-1079 for more info ...

AND IT must have been the $5 pitchers at the Hard Rock Cafe last Friday that got my info twisted -- turns out Danielle De Longe was on the mainland for five months, but has only been back in Honolulu for six weeks. My bad ...
