Volunteers from the city Department of Parks and Recreation picked plumeria flowers on Thursday at Koko Crater Botanical Gardens for leis that will decorate graves at the National Cemetery of the Pacific at Punchbowl. Clint Jamile used a long picker to snip plumeria bunches.

Gilbert Layoen, of Haliimaile, Maui, lit the flame kicking off the Special Olympics at Les Murakami Stadium last night. He was assisted by Honolulu Police Chief Lee Donohue. This was the culmination of the Troy Barboza Law Enforcement Torch Run.
