UH-Hilo's Chu earns D-I Independent honors

Hawaii-Hilo outfielder David Chu was named to the All-Tournament and All-Academic teams following the Division I Independent Baseball Tournament.

Chu, who has a 3.08 grade-point average while majoring in criminal justice, hit .429 with a double and a homer, scored twice, batted in three runs and stole two bases over the three-day tournament.

UCLA's Lam eliminated in NCAA tennis tourney

UCLA's Chris Lam, who was home-schooled in Palolo, was eliminated 6-4, 7-6 by Southern Methodist's Johan Brunstrom yesterday in the first round of the NCAA men's singles championship tennis tournament.

Lam also played the day before, as UCLA lost to Baylor in the NCAA men's tennis team championship final.

Lam, who played at Nos. 2 and 3 for UCLA as a junior this season, previously won the United States Tennis Association's men's Sportsmanship Award.

Rainbow Wahine basketball camp in June

Applications for the Hawaii basketball camp running June 15-20 are now being accepted. Former Rainbow Wahine coach Vince Goo and current and former UH players will conduct two sessions that week. Boys and girls ages 6-12 can participate in the camp June 15-17 for $75. Session two is for girls 12 and up with a fee of $100 per camper.

Annual Hannemann Jamboree set for Monday

The 11th Annual Mufi Hannemann Basketball Jamboree, a postseason showcase for women and girls, is set for Monday at the Moanalua High School Gym.

Several high school standouts are scheduled to play on various all-star teams, as are former University of Hawaii players Jen Kaeo, Lynette Liu, Hedy Liu and Kalei Namohala and former Loyola-Marymount player Kii Spencer-Vasconcellos.

Keiki games, 12-and-under and 14-and-under girls games will also be on the schedule.

Admission is free. Donations to benefit the Gender Equity Sports Club will be accepted.

Tennis on centerstage at Kahala Mall on Sunday

Free giveaways, prizes, crafts and games, topped off by some hitting between junior players, will be featured at a United States Tennis Association-Hawaii Pacific Section tennis rally centerstage Sunday at Kahala Mall. The rally will run 10 a.m.-2p.m.
