Beauty spot is at
Nick’s Fishmarket

MEMORIAL DAY weekend is widely recognized as the official kickoff to summer, with local party promoters pulling out all the stops to get things going with a bang. This year is no exception.

Start things off tonight with the "Miss Hawaii USA/Miss Teen Hawaii USA Premiere Party" at Nick's Fishmarket, starting at 5:30 p.m.

Miss Hawaii USA 2005 Jennifer Fairbank and Miss Teen Hawaii USA 2005 Sonya Balmores will be there, as will a number of other contestants from the two pageants that took place on May 16. Cover is $10 ...

TOMORROW NIGHT, DJ Free and Freekflow.com present the last "Island Voices" concert at the Velvet Lounge.

After moving from Venus to the nightspot on Keawe Street, Free realized that there wasn't enough demand for his local music showcase, since bands were already playing regularly at other venues around town. So after some time off, look for "Island Voices" to return with an all-ages format that Free will tie into Kutmaster Spaz's "Dis-N-Dat" television show.

Milo Shade and Resination will be onstage at the Velvet Lounge tonight; doors open at 9 p.m. Party people 18-and-over are welcome ...

THE NITELITE crew returns to Meritage on Saturday, where they will present the "Loveslapped Compilation Tour" featuring San Francisco-based DJ Jay-J starting at 10 p.m.

A veteran of Bay Area parties like "Love," "1015 Folsom" and "The Sound Factory," Jay-J is also a Grammy-nomimated producer, and owns his own production facility, Moulton Studios.

Also manning the turntables Saturday night: DJs Reid, Eugene and Kawika. Cover will range from $12 to $15; call 529-8686 ...

AND IT'LL all hit the fan on Sunday night, with a number of events planned around town.

First off, the "Star Bar" returns to Longhi's, where there are now four satellite bars to go with the main one in the restaurant. DJs KSM, Drift, Slow Daddy, G-Spot and SubZero will be in the mix ... At Kapono's, Excite Entertainment presents "Gig," a showcase of up and coming local talent. Freelance, Inoa'ole, Kawao, Mundo Muzik, Mystic, Neutral Ground and Rizon will all perform at this 21-and-over party, starting at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10; call 678-3010 ... It'll be a pool party at the Royal Garden Hotel, as Love and Light, 808poolparties.com and Late Night Entertainment present "Garden of Eden." DJs Jrama, Anit, Daniel J, G-Spot and the Nocturnal Sound Krew will be on hand, and there will also be a special performance by Trace and Kimo James. The fun starts at two in the afternoon, and it's free to get in before 4:20 p.m. Call 551-8977 ... And in conjunction with "Girl Fest 2004," the Sisters in Sound will team up with Rebel Girl Underground to throw a party at the W Honolulu starting at 10 p.m. on Sunday ...
