Hard Rock Cafe kicking
off new Friday-nighter

SUMMER IS just about here, and local promoters are gearing up for an influx of club kids who just got out of school and are ready to party.

Of all the new weekly events I've heard about so far, the one I'm most excited about kicks off tomorrow night at the Hard Rock Cafe.

The name of the party -- "$5 Pitchers and Rubba Slippas!" -- is a mouthful, but I can just about guarantee that Friday nights are going to rage all summer long here. Soljah Clothing owner Alika Winter, Veejay Entertainment's Russ Inouye and the Stone Groove Family's Grant "G-Dog" Fukuda have teamed up to bring the heat once again.

Doors open at 9:30 p.m. tomorrow at the Hard Rock, and 104.3 XME's Hawaiian Ryan will handle hosting duties for this 18-and-over party. Call 296-1043 for more info, and don't forget -- the hand stamp you get here will also get you into the Wave Waikiki for free, so you can keep the party going until four in the morning ...

LOOKING FOR something else to do tomorrow night? Help send salsa dance group Aloha Rumberos to Los Angeles next week for the sixth annual West Coast Salsa Congress.

Cover is $8 for the fund-raiser at Cafe Sistina, and DJ Rod will be on hand to spin a mix of salsa, merengue and bachatta until 2 a.m. Everyone who attends will also receive a free mix CD; visit www.aloharumberos.com for more details ...

IF SALSA isn't your thing and you're not much of a beer drinker, check out "Fublown Fridays" over at Volcanoes Nightclub instead.

Drinks are just $2 each tomorrow night, and DJs Kool E and Ben Z will be on the decks starting at 9 p.m. Call 226-9559 ...

HOPEFULLY you've got some money left over from your last paycheck -- two upcoming concerts have tickets going on sale this Saturday, and there's another with tickets already available.

After much negotiation, Hawaii's own Jasmine Trias and Camile Velasco will join the rest of the finalists from "American Idol" for two shows at the Blaisdell on Sept. 28 and 29. Tickets are $48 each, and go on sale at 9 a.m. Saturday.

Over at the Beach House at Aloha Tower Marketplace, Duane Oyama and the gang from Mass Appeal will offer special $10 presale tickets for next month's "Band Camp 2004" from noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday. Ten bands will play on two stages June 11, with Big Island rockers Pepper headlining. Call 566-0644.

And after last visiting back in 2002, California's Slightly Stoopid returns to Oahu for a show June 17 at Pipeline Cafe. Tickets are $15, and are on sale right now at all Ticketmaster outlets ...

WILL SOMEONE please tell me what's going on at the Royal Garden? Word has it that promoter Paul Shih is out, and the hotel wants to cut back on its late-night entertainment after a number of fights broke out there recently. Lose money ...
