The Bloomberg Honolulu Star-Bulletin Index is a price-weighted index designed to measure the performance of Hawaii-based companies. The index was developed with a base value of 100 as of December 31, 1999. A chart of the index which shows the weekly performance of its members is published weekly in the Honolulu Star-Bulletin.



Hawaiian Air flies high


Hawaiian Airlines' parent ascended to a higher altitude this week as it rose 5.3 percent to highlight local stock performers in the Bloomberg Honolulu Star-Bulletin index. Hawaiian Holdings Inc. ended yesterday at $4.20, its highest finish since Feb. 11 when it closed at $4.53. Its stock is now up an index-leading 40.5 percent in 2003.

Penny stock Mera Pharmaceuticals Inc. had the best week as it rose 6.7 percent to 3.2 cents.

ML Macadamia Orchards LP, which this week posted a narrower quarterly loss from a year ago, was the worst performer as it fell 11.1 percent to $3.85.
