Asian style on
the North Shore

Picnic on the North Shore and enjoy a taste of Asia, as well as a fashion show by Anne Namba May 29, when the North Shore Outdoor Circle and Dillingham Ranch present "Appetites of Asia," a celebration of Asian style.

Namba has long been recognized for her East meets West designs incorporating Japanese obi and kimono fabric. Among the designs to be shown are opulent evening gowns and bold graphic coats that can't be missed, for those like to be seen.

Among those who have worn her kimono couture are Hillary Clinton, Kristi Yamaguchi and Aretha Franklin.

Wear your own cheongsam, kimono, sari or sarong, to get into the spirit of the event, which will also feature a gourmet country market, tours of the Dillingham Ranch Homestead, music by Roshan and Shivani, an opportunity to meet members of the Hawai'i Polo Club of Mokule'ia, and a silent auction of Asian antiques and collectibles and handcrafted items.

The event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Dillingham Ranch, 68-434 Farrington Highway, in Waialua. The lunch prepared by Karen Miyano will feature Southeast Asian picnic fare.

Funds raised will go to the North Shore Outdoor Circle, in part to plant trees at the entrance to Haleiwa. Admission is $60 ($45 tax deductible). Call Roger at 626-7721 for advance reservations only. Reservation deadline is Wednesday. More information is available at northshoreoutdoorcircle.org .
