Choy Foo on west region's first team

Hawaii Pacific shortstop Brandy Choy Foo was named to the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division II All-West Region First team yesterday.

Choy Foo was the Pacific West Conference's Player of the Year and led the league in hitting with a .371 average.

The Sea Warriors placed three players on the second team.

PacWest RBI champion Holly Garcia of Ewa Beach, outfielder Jamie Reyes of Palolo Valley and designated player Jennifer Baron made the list for HPU, who finished the season 22-21. UH-Hilo was 25-17 but only put catcher Natalie Fujimoto of Aiea on the list.

Transpac race adds boats in 2005

Centennial Transpacific Yacht Club organizers said yesterday it will open next year's race to non-maxZ86 yachts.

The annual 2,225 nautical mile race from Point Fermin, Calif., to Diamond Head will now allow maxZ86 and non-maxZ86 yachts to compete for the King Kalakaua perpetual trophy and Governor of Hawaii trophy.

Picklesimer new Moanalua cheer coach

Tammie Picklesimer was named cheerleading coach at Moanalua High School.

Picklesimer, a teacher with the Alternative Learning Center at Moanalua, succeeds three-year head coach Sherrie Faildo.

Soccer fund-raiser for Veterans Cup

The Hawaii Soccer Association is holding a party May 23 at the Ocean Club in Restaurant Row from 6 to 10 p.m.

The event is a fund-raiser to defer expenses for hosting the Veterans Cup June 23-27. The cost is $10 and includes pupus, soda, music for dancing, crazy fund contests and games and other surprises.

Triathlon applications available

Entry forms for the 24th Tinman Triathlon are currently available at local running and bike stores. The deadline for forms is June 5 or the first 1,200 paid applicants. The entry fee is $75.00.

The triathlon is scheduled for July 18 and will start at McCoy Pavillion at Ala Moana Beach Park and finish at Magic Island.
