Hawaii gas prices hit all-time high of $2.19

Hawaii's gas prices followed the upward climb of those nationwide this past week, reaching a new all-time high.

AAA said the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded in Hawaii was $2.19 on Friday, up 6 cents from a month ago and 15 cents from a year ago. The price put Hawaii well above the national average of $1.87 a gallon, and second only to California, which posted a $2.21 average.

The average price was $2.10 per gallon in Honolulu, $2.25 in Hilo and $2.43 in Wailuku, according to AAA.

Meanwhile, another industry analyst said yesterday that U.S. gasoline prices rose by slightly more than 10 cents per gallon in the past two weeks, the biggest jump since last August.

The weighted national average for all three grades of gasoline was just over $1.96 per gallon on Friday, according to Trilby Lundberg, publisher of the biweekly Lundberg Survey.
