Secrets to Success

Get more done
in less time

I've never worked a day in my life. Not because I was born with a silver spoon in my mouth. Quite the contrary.

My Dad was a blue-collar, union man. If I wanted something, I learned very early in life that I needed to work for it. Whether it was contacts when I was 10, or a college education, I knew I had to earn it.

Early on, I decided work didn't have to be "work." No matter what I did to earn a living, I chose something I could be happy doing. Whether it was counting money as a bank teller, life-guarding, selling clothes, serving people as a social worker, or my final position as a business coach, I was grateful for the opportunity to earn a living doing something I loved.

Does this mean I never had bad days? No way! What it means is when things were stressful or challenging, I had a choice to make. Either rise to the occasion, being grateful for the opportunity; or wallow in self-pity that wouldn't get me anything but aggravated.

A popular book this century tells us, "Do what you love and the money will follow."

As a business coach, I'll admit, I love the expression. But as a realist, I wonder if it gives the impression that you'll get rich quick by simply pursuing what you love to do once you make a career out of it.

Years after pondering that expression and coaching others to pursue their passion the full complexity of that statement was realized. Allow me to share my discovery with you.

Money is the most popular commodity that we use in this day and age. It allows us to exchange a specific quantity of "X" for a specific quantity of "Y."

If I were to revise the book title, it would read, "Do what you love and the Quan will follow."

The Quan is interpreted to be: the respect, joy, love, money, community and the personal fulfillment that serves to energize us for greater and greater things.

Energy is the true commodity to pursue.

Think about what you could do in your business, career or life with ten times more energy than you have. Imagine how much more you would accomplish and acquire as a result!

Time and energy are the two things, when leveraged together properly, that will allow you to leap frog past your competition.

Today, as you go about your day, realize you have the choice. You are the one who decides to make the most out of every moment of your day.

You can choose to enjoy what you're doing, turning obstacles into opportunities. Or you can wake up from the monotony, and begin to create a plan to change the course of your life so you can experience the Quan every day of your life.

I've never worked a day in my life because I've always enjoyed what I was doing or pursuing.

The moment I started to lose the joy in what I was doing, I created a new plan of action to change my situation in a methodical, realistic manner.

If you commit to that type of thinking, you'll also feel as though you've retired early in life, and you'll never work another day from this day forward.

Is it a deal?
