Island Movers buys remainder of Westpark

Hawktree Land Inc., an affiliate of Island Movers Inc., has purchased a pair of warehouse/office facilities with a combined 100,000 square feet of space in Kapolei's Campbell Industrial Park for $7 million.

With the purchases, the Island Movers family of companies now has complete ownership of Westpark Center, an industrial condominium property adjacent to the Kalaeloa Barbers Point Harbor.

Pro-File Records Systems, another affiliate, earlier this year purchased a 36,000-square-foot warehouse property in the center to serve as the records storage company's headquarters.

The properties were purchased from American Savings Bank, which had foreclosed on the center's original developer.

Ryan Takaki, president of Pro-File, said the two latest purchases were made as real estate investments and that there are plans by Pro-File or Island Movers to take over the facilities, which are occupied by tenants.

Golf tourney raises nearly $64,000

Members of Hawaii's visitor industry raised $63,647 for state educational programs at a recent golf tournament.

A total of 96 teams participated in the Visitor Industry Charity Walk Fore Education Golf Tournament, which took place simultaneously at the Makaha Valley Country Club and the Makaha Resort Golf Club.

The event was organized to help support the upcoming 26th Annual Visitor Industry Charity Walk, which takes place May 15.

Pacific LightNet upgrades network

Pacific LightNet Communications said it has implemented a technical upgrade to its inter-island fiber-optic network that will result in greater transmission capacity for its phone and data offerings and the Internet services available through its Hawaii Online division.

The telecommunications service provider has installed an optical technology known as Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing, which the company says will improve capacity to as much 200 gigabits of data per second.

Company President Pat Bustamante said the upgrade is likely to be imperceptible to PLNC's existing customers, but it will allow the company to handle what it expects to be much greater inter-island data capacity demands in the future as online video and other bandwidth-hogging media proliferate.
