Chun wins ILH golf title

Kamehameha's Mari Chun shot her second consecutive 72 to win the Interscholastic League of Honolulu individual girls golf title yesterday at Ko Olina.

The boys title will be decided today in a sudden-death playoff between University's Travis Toyama and Iolani's Lance Hirai at Waialae Country Club at 4:30 p.m.

Toyama and Hirai finished the final round tied with Damien's Kurt Nino at 148. The three began a playoff yesterday, with Nino bogeying the first playoff hole and Toyama and Hirai each recording pars. They were unable to finish due to darkness.

Nino shot a final-round 73, while Toyama followed his first-round 70 with a 78 and Hirai followed his opening 72 with a 76.

Chun, a junior for the Warriors, finished 14 strokes ahead of second-place finisher Kayla Morinaga, a junior from Sacred Hearts. Morinaga shot 77-81--158, and senior Stacie Nishimoto of Iolani was third at 81-79--160.

Punahou's Erin Matsuoka was fourth (85-81--166) and defending champion Lindsay Hon, a Punahou senior, was fifth at 85-84--169.
