Thomas Ooka, of Pauoa, showed yesterday the decorative carp that he put up for his grandchildren. Only the "old-timers put these up now," Ooka said. Yesterday was Boys Day, a tradition from Japan which families in Hawaii still celebrate. It also was Cinco de Mayo, which commemorates the Mexican army's victory over French troops in Puebla on May 5, 1862.
