Shaner fans
miss his voice


"Where's Frankie B?" is what growing numbers of local folks want to know now that it's been almost four months since Frank B. Shaner disappeared from the morning show on Hawaiian 105 KINE. In January, Shaner returned from a short vacation and was informed that he was off the show. A KINE spokesman implied there would be a continuing relationship between Shaner and KINE. Four months later, Shaner says that he's looking for a place to live, and has been fighting the urge to buy a blue tarp and start comparing the sturdiness of various supermarkets' shopping carts. "So Where's Frankie B?" bumper stickers are out there and T-shirts are on the way. Shaner had been with KINE 10 years ...

Actor/director/stuntman Robin Shou, in town last weekend for appearances at screenings of "Red Trousers: The Life of the Hong Kong Stuntmen," hopes his next project, a documentary on Philippines stick fighting, will increase awareness of Filipino martial arts ... Watch for local boy Josh Ulep in an upcoming Jay-Z video. Sounds like the move to New York is paying off for him ... Diane O'Sullivan (Agnetha in "Rock Legends") shared the stage with Dick Jensen when several members of the "Rock Legends" cast went to a luau that "The Giant" was emceeing at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel on Monday. O'Sullivan was a good sport when she was "volunteered" to put on a headdress and dance hula on stage, but she drew the line at doing the limbo in her micro-mini skirt ... Vocalist Joy Kamisato was the member of White Light most people noticed when the band was playing Top 40 hits at the Magic Mushroom and the Tiki back in the '70s, but there were lots of guys in the band too. Guitarist Milton Koga is now back on the Waikiki scene as guitarist/leader of Wasabi at the Shell Bar in the Hilton Hawaiian Village on weekends ...

Happy Birthday: To KITV newscaster Jill Kuramoto and Manny K. Fernandez, both celebrating today ...

Cecilia Fordham says her late husband, Hank, who died last Wednesday, wasn't one to go public with his health problems, and so many of their friends had no idea he was fighting terminal cancer when he told them about the summer show he was looking forward to doing at Army Community Theatre. A celebration of his life will be held 9:30 a.m. Saturday in the Punahou Chapel ...

Looking Back to May Day, 1977: The Brothers Cazimero arrived by helicopter for their first May Day concert at the Waikiki Shell. Producer Jon de Mello's plans for "May Day XVII" this Saturday include putting a live tree on the Shell stage ...
