Sen. Dan Inouye is among seven former servicemen who distinguished themselves in World War II, Korea and Vietnam who are profiled in "Beyond Glory" by Stephen Lang. All received the Medal of Honor. Jasmine Trias' strong rendition of "I'll Never Love This Way Again" and the powerful support of Hawaii's voters kept her in the "American Idol" running in a strange round of balloting this week. Jasmine's performance was her best yet in the competition. George Huff, who performed poorly this week, and red-head John Stevens, who should have been bounced long ago but showed improvement singing "Mandy" Tuesday, are among those who will continue. Both are popular with voters. The big surprise was Jennifer Hudson being ousted, causing outrage. She was one of the best ...

Ward heir Frank Hustace celebrates 90th

Frank Hustace, the oldest Victoria Ward Estate heir, celebrated his 90th birthday April 16 at Loong Hwa in Salt Lake Shopping Center with about 70 family members and friends. Loong Hwa is Frank's favorite Chinese restaurant. He and wife Connie, a former Star-Bulletin reporter in the late 1940s, continue to patronize the eatery even after it was moved from Kaimuki. At the party, Sarah Campbell sang "Old Plantation," the song named after the Ward home where the Neal Blaisdell Center now stands. A lion dance was performed. Reaching 90 is great, but Frank has a way to go to match his mom, Catherine Magoon Hustace, who lived to 103 ... Another senior, Kahu Sam Saffery, 92, retired from Liliuokalani Church after giving the Easter service ...

Singers for the Symphony Ball May 15 at the Sheraton Ballroom are Jimmy Borges, Cathy Foy, Rocky Brown, Jordan Segundo and Guy Merola ... Henry Kapono, Melveen Leed, the Makaha Sons, Keali'i Ho, Les Ceballos and comedians Frank DeLima, Andy Bumatai and Tony Silva have joined the talent-packed lineup for the tribute to Don Ho tomorrow, 6 p.m., at the Hawaii Theatre. Don will take to the stage in the final segment ... Manoa Valley Theatre raised $65,000 from its fund-raiser at the Hilton ... Don't forget "Rock Legends" tonight at 8 and tomorrow at 2 and 7:30 p.m. at the Concert Hall ...
