Mighty wonton


This dish was prepared by Malina Seaborn of Great and Mighty Greens on "Hawaii's Kitchen" Sunday. The show airs at 5:30 p.m. on KHON/Fox.

Malina's Ahi Won Ton

2 packages wonton wrappers
Macadamia nut oil for frying
>> Filling:
1 pound ahi
1/2 cup goat cheese, cream cheese or vegan substitute
1 tablespoon minced ginger
1 tablespoon minced garlic
2 tablespoons mirin
2 tablespoons oyster sauce
1/2 cup chopped green onion
1/3 cup minced cilantro
1/2 sweet red pepper, minced

To make filling: Combine fish, cheese, ginger, garlic, mirin and oyster sauce in a food processor and blend to a paste, 1 to 2 minutes. Add remaining ingredients; pulse gently. Don't over-blend.

Heat oil to 350 degrees.

Spoon fish mixture into center of a wonton wrapper. Wet edges of wrapper with water and fold in half to make a triangle. Seal edges. Repeat to use up filling. Fry in hot oil until golden, 2 to 3 minutes.
