Novick's 2 hat tricks result in split

Beth Novick led the Hawaii water polo team to a 6-4 win over Arizona State in the Beach Invitational at Long Beach, Calif., yesterday to make up for a 10-5 loss to Long Beach State to open the tournament.

Novick, who leads the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation in scoring, also scored three goals in the loss.

The Rainbow Wahine conclude their road trip with two more matches today.

Smith, Krejci honored by Seasiders

Cross country runner Chelsea Smith and tennis player Jan Krejci were named Brigham Young-Hawaii's athletes of the year yesterday.

Smith won an NCAA national championship and Krejci led the men's tennis team to a national title of its own.

Longtime assistant coaches Harry Maxwell and Jay Akoi were also honored.
