HEAVENLY BEAUTY: Bev Noa, center, added the beauty of hula as Marlene Sai and the Hiram Olsen Trio performed to a standing-room-audience in the House Without A Key restaurant at the Halekulani Hotel on Sunday. Sai entertained the SRO crowd with a great selection of island classics. Her "Waikiki" was a highlight.

AND THEN SHE KISSED HIM! Owana Salazar, left, one of the other singers who entertained the SRO crowd at the Halekulani, greeted Jerry Byrd with a kiss on the cheek that gave the famed steel guitar master a great "smooch mark." Emcee Kimo Kahoano described her black mini-dress as "the shortest muumuu I've ever seen in my life." Guest singers Buz Tennent and Jay Larrin also made it a great show. The celebration of the "new" Halekulani Hotel's 20th anniversary continues this Sunday at 5 p.m. with Nina Keali'iwahamana and the Islanders at the House Without A Key.

LANCE KNOWS BEAUTY: Man-about-town Lance Rae pointed out three reasons "Skyline" at the Hanohano Room was the place to be last Thursday night -- Philana Bouvier, second from left, Mel Cambra and Cheryl Bunag each made distintive fashion statements and stood out from the crowd. Other notables who stopped by to enjoy the ambiance of the Hanohano Room and the music of DJs G-dog and Sub Zero were Kala'i Miller, Josh Olivas, Kai-Nikki, Carmen Mareno, and fashionista Danny Munoz.

OF CAROTS AND BEAVERS: Jay Larrin explained after his intimate concert at the Renaissance Ilikai Waikiki last Friday that Drucilla Pease and her late husband had owned the real-life Flying Beaver Ranch that inspired his popular song, "The Flying Beaver Ranch." The bouquet of carrots was a gift from a fan.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MARTIN!: Martin Denny had a great time celebrating his 93rd birthday with his daughter, Christina Denny, his dog, Tita, and a few dozen friends and well-wishers on Saturday. "You've made my life worthwhile ... I know you'll remember my music," he said as we watched clips of his performances back in the early days of "exotica" and his recent guest spot with Don Tiki at the Hawaii Theatre.
