Lanai, Augie
go all out for
Easter Seals

FOR THE sixth year running, Island 98.5 morning duo Lanai Tabura and Augie Tulba will broadcast live from the Ward Entertainment Complex today in support of Easter Seals Hawaii.

For 16 hours -- that's 960 minutes -- the two will hang out, play games and talk story in an effort to raise $7,500 for keiki and adults who take part in various programs offered by Easter Seals. But don't you think they should stay a bit longer, if for no other reason than to be able to say they were on the air for 985 minutes?

If you've got some time between now and 10 p.m. tonight, stop by to say hello and make a donation. Lanai, Augie and Easter Seals Hawaii will all be glad you did ...

CAN'T MAKE it to the Ward Entertainment Complex today? You've got another chance to donate to a good cause on Tuesday.

Once again, Jamba Juice is offering free smoothies to anyone who can wake up early enough to visit one of their 13 locations on Oahu.

From 6 to 9 a.m. Tuesday morning, you can pick up free 16-ounce or 24-ounce smoothies in exchange for donations that will benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

Unfortunately, I've heard about this event the last couple of years, but haven't been able to check it out for myself. Anything before 10 a.m. is just way too early for me ...

A LITTLE more than a year after their last appearance on Oahu's shores, California surf rock band the Mermen returns for a pair of shows this weekend.

Comprised of guitarist Jim Thomas, bassist Jennifer Burnes and drummer Martyn Jones, the band played here twice in 2002, once in August to play Pipeline Cafe, Anna Bannana's and Haleiwa Joe's, then again in November to take part in a North Shore Lifeguard Association benefit concert.

The three musicians return to Anna's tonight, with another show scheduled for tomorrow. Doors open at 9 p.m. both nights for the 21-and-over crowd; cover is $7. Call 946-5190 ...

ANOTHER PARTY being promoted by Sick Dog Productions is starting to pick up steam.

Along with a Thursday night weekly at East Side Grill and Saturday nights at the University Bowl-O-Drome, Fridays at the Velvet Lounge have been looking good the last few weeks.

Maybe it's the complimentary (that's right, FREE) drinks from 9 to 11 p.m. that's doing it, but I also heard Emirc tore it up on the mic last week during the party.

This time around, DJs A2Z, Lava, Leiloa and Toyz will be on the decks, and there will be both a male and female revue taking place -- the ladies can enjoy themselves upstairs, while the guys get entertained downstairs. E-mail sickdoghonolulu@hotmail.com for more details ...
