>> Just Four Giggles competed and tied for first place with a group called Better Than Chocolate in the Young Women in Harmony competition Monday. The quartet is part of La Pietra's 21-member show choir, which joined 2,500 other singers nationwide at the America Sings Festival in Long Beach on Saturday. An item on Page D2 Tuesday implied that the quartet members were the only choir members to perform at that event and at Disneyland.

Cuba Gooding Jr. enjoyed a brief vacation recently at the Four Seasons Resort Wailea at the same time Wailea homeowner Clint Eastwood and family were there snorkeling and swimming ... Yes, that was Michael Jackson in Kihei dressed in red-orange pants, black long-sleeved shirt and a straw hat with mosquito netting covering his face. Jackson was staying in a $6,000-a-night beachfront home on South Kihei Road with his two children ... The "Eddie Would Go" Book Launch Party in Hollywood on March 23 with author Stuart Coleman was a big success with more than 600 people showing up for the event, a benefit for The Eddie Aikau Memorial Foundation and Surf Aid. Sponsors who donated gifts and auction items included Quiksilver, Surfer magazine, Hard Rock Cafe and St. Martin's Press. ... Local artist Kim Taylor Reece, who has helped promote Hawaii with his international art shows, is celebrating his silver anniversary. In recognition of Reece's 25 years of working with the hula kahiko, the Senate held a congratulations ceremony last Friday. ...

CONGRATULATIONS also to La Pietra students Lindsay Fox, Chrissie Renton, Megan De Board and Billy Lynn Han. The quartet, music students of entertainer Shari Lynn, performed at Disneyland last Friday. The girls will also try to break the Guinness World Book of Records by being part of the largest choral group ever assembled. The group is gearing up to compete in the Young Women in Harmony Program at Diamond Head Theatre under the name "Just Four Giggles." Lynn will be busy too with rehearsals for her lead role in "Hello Dolly," running May 21 to June 6 at DHT. ...

The Hawai'i International Film Festival surpassed its ticket-sale goal before the first film screened. The hit Spring Fling ends Thursday and for those who enjoy a film that has everything, don't miss "Kal Ho Naa Ho" 6:45 p.m. Thursday at Dole Cannery. The film's full of singing, dancing, crying, laughter and romance -- audiences in India feel cheated if any emotion is left untapped, according to festival director Chuck Boller. The film is in Hindi with English subtitles. ...

FINALLY, Easter is around the corner and guys who want to surprise a girlfriend with an Easter basket might check out Nohea Gallery in Ward Centre, offering small sophisticated Asian and Hawaiian print bags ($125 to $155) that can be filled with goodies.
