Carlsen named WAC Pitcher of the Week

Hawaii right-hander Clary Carlsen's first career complete game earned him Western Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week honors, the conference announced yesterday.

Carlsen, a senior from Poulsbo, Wash., gave up one unearned run in the Rainbows' 8-1 win at Louisiana Tech on Saturday. He gave up six hits and walked none, while striking out four, as he improved to 5-3 this season with a 3.31 ERA.

Warriors practice without Thomas and La Barre

The Hawaii men's volleyball team returned to practice yesterday without two of its players. Junior outside hitter Delano Thomas was sidelined with a throat ailment and sophomore Maulia La Barre was resting his sprained left ankle. The middle blocker sat out practice as a precautionary measure.

Both are expected to practice today. The fifth-ranked Warriors host No. 2 Long Beach State on Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Stan Sheriff Center.

Kikaida part of Islanders' pre-game festivities

Popular '70s television icon Kikaida will be featured before every Hawaiian Islanders arena football game at the Meadow Gold Dairies Family FANFest, the team announced yesterday.

An inflatable arena football field replica, a quarterback challenge, face painting and other festivities will be featured at the Blaisdell Arena prior to Islanders games, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Admission is free to those attending Islanders games.

Seasider tennis team still winning

The Brigham Young-Hawaii women's tennis team, No. 1 in Division II, shut out Division I Southern Mississippi 6-0 yesterday, extending its winning streak in dual matches to 85 and improving to 19-0.

Jing Jing Liu led the Seasiders with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles.

UH track team breaks school record

The Hawaii women's outdoor track and field team finished in sixth place at the Rice Bayou Classic last weekend, while breaking a school record.

Sophomore Novelle Murray broke the school mark in the hammer throw, with a distance of 40.65 meters, and finished eighth in the event.
