Hawaii State Library
gets new director

Florence Yee, a 30-year veteran of Hawaii's libraries, has been named director of the Hawaii State Library, effective immediately.

She has served as acting director since last summer and replaces Jo Ann Schindler, who was appointed state librarian by the Board of Education in October.

"Florence Yee brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to her new position at the Hawaii State Library," Schindler said. "She is one of the public library system's strongest and most eloquent spokespersons for public libraries, as well as being a caring, dedicated and service-oriented veteran librarian."

Yee served as branch manager of Kaimuki Public Library for nearly eight years, manager of the Hawaii Kai Public Library and statewide children's services coordinator, as well as in other administrative positions.
