Seasiders still sweeping

Dillon Porter swept Brenton Arakaki and Simon Kersten did the same to Wendle Rapping as the Brigham Young-Hawaii men's tennis team beat Chaminade 9-0 yesterday.

Eddie Acuna put up the biggest fight for the Silverswords, losing to Hong Tae Kim 6-4, 6-2.

The Seasiders take on Bowdoin tomorrow.

Still unbeaten: The BYUH women's team also swept Chaminade 9-0, improving to 11-0 this season.

The Seasiders, who have won 77 straight matches, won three by default because Chaminade brought only four players to the match.

Fonoimoana, Wong advance in Brazil

Eric Fonoimoana and Kevin Wong teamed up to win a pair of matches in the opening rounds of the first men's FIVB World Tour event of the year at Salvador, Brazil, yesterday.

Wong, who prepped at Punahou, and Fonoimoana beat Farid Mussa/Jose Vasquez 21-17, 21-13 and Casey Jennings/Matt Fuerbringer 19-21, 21-15, 15-12.

Wong is trying to join fellow local products Stein Metzger and Sean Scott in the main draw of the tournament.

Hawaii in sixth in Thompson Invitational

Dale Gammie shot a 147 to tie for fourth place after the first day of the Donnie Thompson Invitational at the Kaneohe Klipper yesterday, helping Hawaii to its spot in sixth place with 615 strokes.

Gammie, a freshman, opened with a 72 and followed with a 75.

New Mexico leads the tourney at 594 and TCU's Brooke Tull leads all individuals with a 144.

Chrisman makes tournament team

Brigham Young-Hawaii basketball player Jake Chrisman was named to the West Region All-Tournament team yesterday.

Chrisman scored 61 points in two games at the tournament, where the Seasiders were upset by eventual champion Humboldt State.

Siegfried selected pitcher of the week

Hilo pitcher Scott Siegfried was selected the NCAA Pitcher of the Week for players on independent teams yesterday.

Siegfried only gave up two runs to Western Illinois in 15 innings over two games last week to get noticed.

Lobos outlast Rainbow Wahine

Lauren Fitzgerald, Sylvia Jaros and Paige Minor each won singles matches but the Hawaii women's tennis team lost to No. 23 New Mexico 4-3 yesterday in Waipahu.

The Rainbow Wahine play Colorado State today at 3 p.m.
