Mililani’s Mabry signs
with Kentucky

The linebacker led the Trojans
to first place in the OIA West

Mililani linebacker Mikhail Mabry has signed to play football for Kentucky, Trojans coach James Millwood said yesterday.

Wildcats assistant Ron McBride contacted Millwood to inquire about Mabry in December, but didn't have a scholarship to offer when national letter of intent signing season began Feb. 4.

When another recruit didn't pan out, Mabry got an invitation from McBride and visited the Kentucky campus last weekend.

"I think Mikhail's the right guy to handle something like this -- going to a school in the East," Millwood said. "I think he'll adapt well. It's a great university with a great football program and I believe he can do it. I think Kentucky made a great pickup."

The 6-foot-2, 230-pound Mabry was one of the main cogs on the Mililani defense and led the Trojans to a first-place finish in the Oahu Interscholastic Association West Division and a spot in the state quarterfinals last fall. He was also a forward on the OIA West champion Mililani basketball team that finished fourth in the state this winter.

Mabry will attend a Kentucky junior college in the fall before starting at Kentucky next winter.
