Hawaii divers headed to NCAA championship

Rainbow Wahine diver Maggie Roberts qualified yesterday for the NCAA championships in College Station, Texas.

Roberts scored 357.15 points for fifth place in the women's platform event at the Zone E regional in Oklahoma City, Okla., to earn her spot in this week's championship. The women's championship runs Thursday to Saturday.

Roberts joins fellow Wahine diver QiongJie Huang who qualified on the first day of competition in the 1-meter springboard. Huang was 13th (317.35) in the platform finals.

Also qualifying yesterday was Jonathan Coyle who finished third (451.45) in the men's platform. Senior Michael Gowdy qualified Friday in the 1-meter springboard and was ninth (417.35) in the platform event.

The 2004 men's NCAA championships are Mar. 25-27 at Long Island, N.Y.

Seasiders sweep Silverswords

Brigham-Young Hawaii swept a doubleheader against Chaminade in Hilo yesterday. Behind the pitching of Echo Hatch, the Seasiders defeated the Silverswords 1-0 and 3-1. Hatch fanned 13 in the first game and Amanda Nino's RBI double in the sixth inning was enough for the Seasiders. In the second game, Shea Seever's base hit scored Rachel Delany and Nino for an early 2-0 lead.

Wilton to speak at Quarterback Club

Hawaii men's volleyball coach Mike Wilton headlines the group of speakers at tomorrow's meeting of the Quarterback Club. Also slated to speak are John Korff and Ken Suenaga. Korff is the organizer for the U.S. Olympic Triathlon trials. Suenaga is the general chairman of Hawaii swimming.

The meeting starts at noon at the Pagoda Restaurant.
