Rebecca Crowe, right, and Soane Viagalelei placed candles in front of a cross yesterday at the Newman Center in preparation for Taize Prayer Around the Cross, a musical, chant-form of prayer from the ecumenical Taize Monastery in France. The evening service is a candlelight prayer session of quiet, chant, prayer and reflection before the icon of the cross. Services are held at the center every Friday through Lent starting at 7:30 p.m. All are welcome.

A Honolulu Police Department officer swept aside debris yesterday from flares used to cordon off an accident area on Diamond Head Road near the lighthouse. A 78-year-old woman was killed when she was struck at about 5:12 a.m. by a Koko Head-bound vehicle.


MAKING THE MOVES

Preschoolers get physical

About 340 preschoolers with special needs and their peers gathered yesterday for physical education at about 30 different activity stations at Manoa District Park. The Honolulu District Special Education Section coordinated this play day for preschool children who attend class at public schools. The stations included throwing, catching, striking, kicking and more to promote physical activity and skill development.
