Islanders help with
benefit at DeNiro’s
eatery


Paul Brown and CIA Models owner Kim Medeiros helped put on an Oscar night benefit bash at Robert DeNiro's Ago restaurant in West Hollywood. Brown included his Hawaiian hair care products in the goody bags. The bags themselves were Brown's hot yellow shopping bags. Other honorary committee members included Antonio Banderas, Melanie Griffith, Martin Sheen and more Hollywood stars. Mira and Paul Sorvino, Natalie Cole, Dennis Haysbert, Sally Kirkland and Esai Morales were among guests. The party benefited ACLU of Southern California and Amnesty International USA. Lee Strasberg Institute was among sponsors ...

Swingin' out at DHT

Things will be swingin' at Diamond Head Theatre when "Swing!" gets the downbeat on March 26. The musical will keep things jumping through April 11. Local gal Adealani Malia, who was in the national tour of "Swing!," is guest director-choreographer. Keyboarder Alethea Train is musical director and will lead an eight-piece band. Carolyn Berry, First Hawaiian Bank and the Richard Aadland Trust are sponsoring this one. Swing is also the theme of DHT's fund-raiser April 23 at Waialae Country Club with the Little Big Band, featuring hot sax man Gabe Baltazar and singer Keahi Conjugacion. Food will be by Russell Siu's 3660 on the Rise. Guests are encouraged to dress for swing. Tickets are $85 each; call DHT at 733-0277 ext. 306 ...

CelebS showed up at George Clooney's L.A. home last Saturday to attend a fund-raiser for his dad, Nick Clooney, who is running for Congress in Kentucky. Danny DeVito, Noah Wylie, Cindy Crawford, Elliot Gould, Red Buttons, Miguel Ferer, Laura San Giacomo and Richard Kind attended. Matt Catingub, who was close to Nick's sister, the late Rosemary Clooney, was musical director for the event. Matt is host of PBS' "Rosemary Clooney: Girl Singer," on PBS Tuesday from 7:30 to 9 p.m. ... That HBO "Sopranos" bash March 27 is for invited guests but HBO has teamed with KRTR and KGMZ to give away party tickets and prizes ...

Alzheimer's benefit

Dig out the disco attire for the Alzheimer's Association Moonlight & Magic fund-raiser at the Hilton Tapa Ballroom next Saturday. It's a 70s theme event with terrific silent auction items and music by Rubber Soul. Paul Brown and Josette Marsh are co-chairs. Tom Moffatt is honorary chair. Pamela Young and Gary Sprinkle will emcee. Tickets are $150; call 591-2771 ... Branscombe Richmond is here for a guest role in the "Hawaii" pilot. Bran played The Rock's brother in "Scorpion King" ... Traci Toguchi opens tomorrow for The Platters at the Ilikai ...

Happy birthday to sleek and stylish Daynin Dashefsky and Jane Stubenberg, who celebrated their special days Tuesday and last Saturday, respectively. Daynin went dining, karaoke singing and dancing with friends and the men of Gracie Jiu Jitsu Kailua, where she is the only female member and, she claims, the oldest at 41. Jane partied with other Pisces, including Eran  Kennedy and Charlie Meyer, Tuesday at the Waikiki Yacht Club ... Today marks my 37th year with the Star-Bulletin. What a ride! ...
