Friends and family gathered at Charlie Landing at Hospital Point yesterday to greet the returning cruiser USS Port Royal as it entered Pearl Harbor after a six-month deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom. Capt. Pat Allen commanded some 350 crew members.

Seventh-graders from Dole Middle School helped spruce up the fence at Foster Botanical Garden yesterday as part of a community service project. Chipping in were Christian Puapuaga, left, Keenan Hoohuli, Marshall Faaaliga, Aldridge Languban and Precious Maava.

Anela, a Chihuahua and miniature pinscher mix, kept a lookout from the back of her owner's PT Cruiser at Kakaako Park yesterday. According to the dog's owners, Alice and Peter Comeau, Anela is a Hawaiian word for "angel."
