3 soldiers from
Schofield wounded
during firefight in Iraq

All of the soldiers are in
Bravo Company, 1st Battalion,
of the 21st Infantry Regiment

Three soldiers from the 25th Infantry Division are recuperating in an Army hospital in Baghdad after being wounded in a firefight Monday night in Kirkuk.

They were identified as Staff Sgt. Santiago Frias, 24; Staff Sgt. Timothy Pollock, 25; and Sgt. Israel Burks, no age given.

All of the soldiers are members of Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 21st Infantry Regiment.

Maj. Neal O'Brien, an Army spokesman in Tikrit, said the soldiers are in stable condition at the 31st Combat Support Hospital in Baghdad.

He said the soldiers had been shot, but he did not know the extent of their wounds.

A 25th Division spokes-woman last night said the three soldiers are expected to recuperate at the Army hospital in Landstuhl, Germany.

O'Brien said that soldiers, members of Task Force Iron Horse, were conducting a reconnaissance in preparation for a search mission near Kirkuk Stadium when they came under small arms fire.

The wounded soldiers were first taken to Forward Operating Base Warrior and then flown to Baghdad.

Last month, two soldiers from the 25th Division's 2nd Brigade Combat Team were wounded by a bomb and a separate firefight.

There have been no fatalities among the 4,000 Schofield Barracks soldiers who were sent to Iraq last month.
