Police forensics program seeking students

The Honolulu Police Department is taking applications for its Forensics for Students program.

HPD's Scientific Investigation Section has developed a weeklong summer program for high school students to observe and participate in applications of practical forensic science.

The program will cover topics such as evidence collection, DNA/serology, drug analysis, composite drawing, firearms and ballistics.

The program will run June 28 to July 2, and is open to freshmen, sophomores and juniors who have a strong interest in forensic science, and have taken physical or life sciences, computer science, mathematics or art.

They must also plan to pursue a science-related discipline at the college level. If selected, neighbor island students must make their own living, food and transportation arrangements.

For more information or to receive an application, visit www.honolulupd.org or call the HPD photo lab at 529-3194.

Deadline for applications is March 31.
