Sea Warriors split Aloha Stadium doubleheader

Kyle Stanley's two-run single keyed a first-inning rally and spurred Hawaii Pacific to a 7-2 victory over Tampa yesterday in the second game of a doubleheader at Aloha Stadium.

Kai Austin allowed three hits and two unearned runs in five innings for the win, and Greg Benoit hit a bases-loaded triple for some insurance runs in the sixth.

In the first game, Eric Beattie pitched a three-hitter and Billy Wimberly hit a three-run home run, as Tampa won 3-1.

Tampa is 16-5 and HPU is 6-6.

HPU edges BYUH in extra-inning softball game

Holly Garcia hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Brandi Choy Foo in the bottom of the eighth inning to give Hawaii Pacific a 4-3 softball victory over Brigham Young-Hawaii yesterday at Hawaii Loa.

Anuhea Diamond went 3-for-3 with a solo homer for the Sea Warriors (8-1, 2-1). Kara Wedemeyer and Choy Foo also paired hits for HPU. Brooke Hilton went 2-for-3 for the Seasiders (7-7, 1-2).

Low, Lipsher to be honored at Quarterback Club

The Honolulu Quarterback Club will recognize Iolani basketball player and Punahou soccer goalie Allison Lipsher as the outstanding male and female sports persons for the month of February at its weekly meeting today.

Howard Okita, coach of the Hawaii Pacific softball team, and Kelsey Nakanelua, sprinter representing American Samoa in the 2004 Olympics, will be featured speakers.

The luncheon at the Pagoda Restaurant begins at 11:30 and the program begins at noon. It is open to the public.

Chaminade ends Hilo's hopes

Kashif Reyes scored 20 points and Roy Stigall added 18 as Chaminade beat UH-Hilo 87-85 last night in Hilo.

The Vulcans (16-7, 87 PacWest), who were hoping for an NCAA tournament bid, were led by Joe Travis' 25 points. the Silverswords closed at 11-14 and 8-7.
