Five Rainbow Wahine swimmers received invites to the NCAA Championships yesterday. Mia Broden, Yan Chen, Nicole Mackey, Dena Quick and YingJuan Zhen will represent the University of Hawaii at the meet scheduled for March 18-20 in College Station, Texas.

Both Quick and Mackey had automatic qualifying times in the 50 free and 100 back. Zhen, Chen, and Broden had "B" qualifying times and were selected yesterday to participate. Zhen will swim the 100 and 200 back while Chen is slated for the 200 fly, 200 IM, and 400 IM. Broden is entered in the 100 and 200 fly.

Quick will also compete in the 100 free and Mackey in the 200 back and 200 IM. The Rainbow Wahine are also entered in the 200 free, 800 free, 200 medley, and 400 medley relays.

Divers QiongJie Huang and Maggie Roberts could qualify through next weekend's Zone E Diving Regionals in Oklahoma City, Okla.

Hawaii falls to 49ers

Long Beach State remained undefeated in the Malihini Tournament with a 4-1 win over Hawaii at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium last night.

The 49ers scored two runs in the second inning when UH catcher Denise Dahlberg's pick-off throw to third went into left field.

Earlier, Hawaii (12-11) beat Siena for the third time this week with an 8-0 shutout as Shannon Tabion allowed just three hits.

Vulcans win two: The UH-Hilo softball team won two of three games from Notre Dame de Namur at Hilo yesterday.

The Vulcans lost 5-4 in a makeup of Thursday's game suspended due to darkness and then won 1-0 and 2-1. Hiloimproved to 15-4.

No ticket sales next week

Tickets to University of Hawaii sports events will not be available for sale Monday and Tuesday because the computer system for ticket sales is being upgraded on those days.

This includes walk-up sales, phone sales, online sales and all remote outlets.

There are no UH home events scheduled for those two days.
