3 specialists will
discuss colon cancer

Three specialists will discuss prevention, diet and testing for cancer of the rectum or colon in a free public presentation 9 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the Weinberg Office Pavilion Building, St. Francis Medical Center-Liliha.

Speakers will include Dr. James Kakuda, surgical oncologist; Cyndy Kahalewale, St. Francis clinical and nutrition manager; and Terri Imada, adult nurse practitioner in the St. Francis Cancer Screening and Education Program.

March is National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, and specialists are emphasizing that many deaths could be avoided if the cancer is detected early.

They advise people 50 and older to get tested. Screening can find small growths before they turn into cancer. Both women and men are at risk, especially at age 50 and older.

People with an inflammatory bowel disease or a close relative who has colorectal cancer growths might be at higher risk.

Reservations are recommended. Call 547-6410.
