Hawaii shuts out Siena

The Rainbow Wahine softball team shut out Siena 8-0 and 3-0 last night at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.

In the first game, Shannon Tabion threw a two-hitter, striking out eight and walking none. Tabion was backed by an offense that had 12 hits. Denise Dahlberg batted 3-for-4, driving in four runs with a double and a triple. Tracie Uchima went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs and two stolen bases.

Melissa Coogan tossed a three-hitter and struck out eight in the second game. Stacey Ritter hit a solo home run and scored twice while Dahlberg drove in another run.

Hawaii improved to 9-10 while Siena fell to 0-2. Both squads will play in the Kipa Aloha Malihini Tournament that runs tomorrow through Sunday with Long Beach State, Southern Illinois and the College of Charleston.

Softball rained out: Today's softball doubleheader between BYU-Hawaii and Notre Dame de Namur in Laie was canceled due to a wet field from yesterday's rain.

The rain also caused the cancellation of yesterday's doubleheader between Notre Dame de Namur and Hawaii Pacific at Hawaii Pacific's Hawaii Loa campus.

Seasiders fall in final poll

The BYU-Hawaii men's basketball team fell five spots to No. 25 in the final Division II Bulletin national poll released yesterday. The Seasiders (21-5), split a pair of matches against UH-Hilo and beat Chaminade last week.

BYUH finishes the regular season Friday against Hawaii Pacific and then plays in the NCAA West Regional Tournament next week.

Junior Jake Chrisman was named PacWest Player of the Week for the fifth time this season on Monday. The Seasiders are first in the nation in field-goal percentage (52.8) and sophomore Shawn Opunui is second in the nation in three-point shooting percentage (53.4).
