Police search the area for one of
Hawaii's most wanted fugitives

Federal and local law enforcement officials scoured Haleiwa yesterday for one of Hawaii's most wanted fugitives, who has several firearm and drug convictions.

A U.S. Marshals Service employee said officials were working on a tip that Silver J. Galindo, a k a Daniel Galindo and Nimrod Patrick Galindo, may have been in the area.

The search, which lasted for hours yesterday, was unsuccessful, and Galindo is still on the loose.

Galindo, who was one of 10 fugitives featured in the weekly newspaper MidWeek last year, has seven felony convictions.

Honolulu police, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and other agencies participated in yesterday's search. Witnesses said officials used Haleiwa Harbor, near Haleiwa Joe's on Kamehameha Highway, as a staging area.

A police helicopter was also used in the search.
