Track officials clinic this week

A Level I clinic for track and field officials is scheduled for this Friday and Saturday at Punahou School's Hemmeter Fieldhouse upper level classroom.

Two Master-rated officials from California -- Eugene Stemm and Ray Fitzhugh -- will assist the Hawaii Association of USATF Officials Committee in conducting the clinic.

Friday's session begins at 6 p.m. and will cover the application and administration of the new high school competition rules, and how they differ from NCAA and Master rules. Saturday's session starts at 8 a.m. with various discussion groups covering starting, umpiring, vertical jumps, horizontal jumps and throws.

Lunch will be provided on Saturday. A practice for the disciplines covered in the morning sessions will be conducted during the afternoon track meet, starting at 1:30 p.m.

The clinic is free and open to anyone who would like to become a certified track and field official, or to anyone who currently is an official and seeking to upgrade his certification rating. For more information, call 732-8805.
