Sheraton ends management
of Molokai hotels

MAUNALOA, Molokai >> Molokai Properties Ltd. is realigning its marketing strategy for the 22-room Molokai Lodge at Maunaloa and the 40-bungalow Beach Village at Kaupoa Beach.

Molokai Properties has ended its two-year management of the properties under Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc. as a Sheraton-branded establishment. The return of management to the hotel's owners largely has no effect on the property's 80 employees, said Peter Nicholas, chief executive of Molokai Properties.

The company has decided to market the Molokai Lodge as a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World. The Beach Village will be marketed by Molokai Properties as a separate entity.

The Molokai Lodge, near the Outfitter's Center, has three buildings, including a main building featuring a dining room, parlor, bar and lounge, fitness and massage center, library, billiards room, and a heated swimming pool.

Nicholas said he was delighted that Molokai Lodge had become part of an exclusive membership of independently-owned small luxury hotels located in more than 50 countries.

The Beach Village, 20 minutes from Maunaloa, includes 40 canvas bungalows overlooking Kaupoa Beach. Molokai Properties has appointed Taryn Waros as the new general manager for both hotel properties. Waros served in various management roles at The Ritz Carlton, Kapalua.

Molokai Properties Ltd. is owned by Brierley International Ltd. of New Zealand.
