Mililani receives
top seed for state
championship


The three-time defending champion Mililani Trojans were awarded the top seed in the 2004 Ohana Hotels & Resorts Boys Soccer Championships yesterday.

The 12-team tournament at Aloha Stadium opens Wednesday with a 1 p.m. game between Big Island Interscholastic Federation third-place team Hilo and Kalaheo, the runner-up to Mililani in the Oahu Interscholastic Association.

Rounding out the action on the first day are: Waiakea vs. Kaiser, Kauai vs. Pearl City and Kamehameha vs. Castle.

Interscholastic League of Honolulu champion Iolani is seeded second and plays the winner of the Waiakea-Kaiser game Thursday, when seeded teams open play. The third seed is Maui Interscholastic League champion Baldwin. Big Island champion Kealakehe is seeded fourth.

The OIA has five teams in the tournament, the BIIF two, the ILH three and the MIL and Kauai Interscholastic Federation one apiece.

Tickets to the event cost $7 for adults and $5 for students through 12th grade and are good for all-day admission. Parking costs $2. The Main Salt Lake and Halawa gates will open at 6 a.m. Wednesday and Saturday 9:30 a.m. Thursday and 10:30 a.m. Friday.
