Case plans 3 meetings
on Kauai this Saturday

U.S. Rep. Ed Case will be on Kauai on Saturday to host three town meetings in Hanalei, Kapaa and Kekaha.

The meetings are the third round of visits to Kauai held by Case since winning election a year ago.

"With the 2004 session now in progress, I want to be sure that I hear what's on the mind of Kauai residents," Case said.

The meeting schedule includes Hanalei School Cafeteria, 9 a.m.; Kapaa Middle School, noon; and Kekaha School at 3:30 p.m.

Malama keiki scorecard

Hawaii's congressional delegation has tied with Massachusetts for first place for giving the most support to legislation protecting children, according to a scorecard prepared by the Children's Defense Fund.

The private nonprofit organization graded elected officials on 12 votes, from the child tax credit to bills appropriating resources for abused and neglected children.

"Hawaii's congressional delegation proved their support for our most vulnerable children time and time again in 2003," said Liz Chun, executive director of Good Beginnings Alliance in Hawaii. "In this difficult political climate, we must be sure to expand, not shrink, the federal resources dedicated to our keiki."

More information on the scorecard can be found at www.cdfactioncouncil.org/ scorecard2003.pdf.

Film role for Oshiro

Rep. Marcus Oshiro (D, Wahiawa) won a part in an independent film that was supposed to start filming this month.

That could have caused a scheduling conflict for the lawmaker, who began started work in the current legislative session Jan. 21. Luckily, Oshiro said filming was rescheduled to May because of the weather.
