>> Norm Baker has joined Aloha United Way as vice president of community building. He will be responsible for community planning, strategic initiatives for improving the health and human services safety net, capacity building and fund distribution. He previously served as the Child and Family Service vice president of administration and the Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii Service Excellence Center executive director.

PROMOTIONS

>> First Insurance Co. of Hawaii's board of directors has elected Paul Clayson to vice president. He was hired in 2001 as director of information technology infrastructure and technical services, and was previously elected assistant vice president and chief information officer.

RECOGNITION

>> The Pacific Telecommunications Council Hawaii Foundation has honored East-West Center researcher and senior fellow emerita Meheroo Jussawalla for her lifelong work in economics and telecommunications. She has studied information technology parks in Asia as part of bridging the digital divide between poor and wealthy nations; telecommunications trade between the United States and Japan; satellite orbital competition over the Pacific Ocean; and privatization of telecommunication monopolies in the Asia-Pacific region.
