Thompson on his
way to Oregon State

Saint Louis defensive end Tavita Thompson orally committed to Oregon State on Sunday night, Saint Louis assistant coach Skip Akina said yesterday.

Thompson will sign his national letter of intent tomorrow, the first day high school football players can do so.

Previously, Thompson committed to Colorado, but changed his mind.

"The family sat down and decided it was a better fit at Oregon State," Akina said. "It's a lot easier for them to travel and see him play, and it's a Pac-10 school, which gets a lot more TV attention here (than the Big 12)."

Thompson went on a recruiting trip to Arizona last weekend. Utah was also interested in the 6-foot-5, 290-pounder.

The Beavers plan to switch Thompson to offensive tackle.

In other recruiting news, three Moanalua players are drawing interest.

Utah has inquired about Sean Yandall, a 6-6, 290-pound two-way lineman, according to Menehunes coach Arnold Martinez.

Tailback and safety Wally Coleman and cornerback Nigel Ross are getting looked at by St. Mary's (Calif.), Menlo (Calif.) and several other small schools.
