>> Sunset Grill has hired James Gillespie as its new executive chef. He was most recently executive chef at Plaza Club and has over 23 years of professional experience.

Promotions

>> Gregory E. Ratte has been promoted to president of Bishop Street Capital Management. Robin Midkiff, who was president, becomes vice chairman. Ratte, who joined the firm in 2001, has been senior vice president and chief investment officer. He has 18 years of industry experience.

>> Waikiki Aquarium has promoted shark expert Gerald Crow as curator of its live exhibits department. He will manage the exhibit's quality and develop and oversee the aquarium's research and community education. He previously served as acting curator at the aquarium and has held other positions there, including supervisor and research associate.

>> Tom Rosenswike has been retained by Helber Hastert & Fee, Planners as a senior planner. He joined the company in 2002 as a senior planner and has focused on military installation, facilities and land use planning for various Navy planning initiatives since joining the firm.

ON THE BOARD

>> Adult Friends for Youth recently elected Hawaii Management Alliance Association President Arnold M. Baptiste as president of the board for 2003-2005. Other new officers are: Heitzman Enterprises President Chuck Heitzman, vice president; Incite Marketing Principal Bill Spellman, treasurer; and Jean Palm McIntosh, secretary. Brad J. Myers, senior vice president of Kapolei Property Development, is past president. He will be honored with the Service to Hawaii's Youth Award at the organization's fund-raiser on Nov. 28, 2003. Other honorees will be Young Adults of the Year Mario Fatafehi, Denver Broncos defensive tackle; and Louis Caday, Cutter Mazda mechanic.

>> The Building Industry Association of Hawaii has installed CC Engineering & Consultants Inc. President John Cheung as president for 2004. Other 2004 officers are: Immediate Past President Kenneth Chaote, HASEKO Construction Inc.; President-Elect Fred Moorse, HSI Mechanical Inc.; Vice President Alan Shintani, Alan Shintani Inc.; Secretary Alan Arakawa, Castle & Cooke Homes Inc.; Treasurer Charles Au, Erwin Cabrinha & Au; Special Appointee-Builder Rodney Yamamoto, Kokea Construction & Consultants Inc.; and Special Appointee-Associate Karin Holma, Bays Deaver Lung Rose and Baba. >> Joe Miller, Hawaii Convention Center transportation and security manager, was elected 2004 Hawaii Visitor Industry Security Association president for a two-year term. He will act as liaison with law enforcement and will serve as the organization's spokesperson and representative to other statewide visitor industry organizations.

>> Warren Nakamura, PacCorp Federal Credit Union past chairman and Honolulu Federal Employees' Federal Credit Union president and CEO, has been appointed to one of two new seats in WesCorp's board of directors. The seats were added as part of the merger agreement between Pacific Corporate Federal Credit Union and WesCorp.

>> Aiea Allstate Agent Peter Kaneshige recently received the Agency Hands in the Community award for his commitment to volunteering at Hawaii Mothers' Milk Inc. His involvement includes assisting with mailings and updating client lists. The award includes a $500 grant from The Allstate Foundation to Hawaii Mothers' Milk Inc.

>> American Cancer Society honored Roberta Chang with its Terese Lasser Award for her work as a Reach to Recovery breast cancer survivor program volunteer for more than 10 years. She helps with recruiting and is a spokesperson for the program.
